Subin

Please note - Subin only teaches online.

Subin is currently a fourth year viola performance and music education student at the University of California, Los Angeles. She began playing viola in fourth grade and has been involved in a wide variety of musical ensembles and organizations throughout her musical career. Over the years, she has studied under Yunsun Kim, Jay Liu from the San Francisco Symphony, and now Brian Chen at UCLA, where she has been able to further grow her musical skills.

Subin has had extensive orchestral experiences, from being part of the San Jose Youth Symphony Philharmonic as the principal violist and going on two international tours to Europe and South America, to playing in the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, UCLA Philharmonia, and Cambrian Symphony. Subin has also participated in the CASMEC All-State Orchestras for three years, Pioneer High School Chamber Orchestra as the viola principal, and the Korean-American Music Supporters Association Orchestra as the principal violist. Subin has also received awards from the United States International Music Competition, KAMSA competition, the Silicon Valley Youth Music Competition, and the Pioneer High School music departmental awards.

Throughout the years, Subin has performed at senior centers and organized benefit concerts as the former president of the Almaden Youth Musicians. She also spent her free time leading after-school music classes at Simonds Elementary School and teaching private lessons to young violin and viola students, which ultimately inspired her to pursue music education at the Herb Alpert School of Music.

Subin’s philosophy of music education revolves around fostering every student's musical interest, and allowing them to explore and enjoy all areas of music. She aims to deliver engaging material to teach fundamental musical concepts, while still giving students enough freedom and independence to establish their own unique paths in the musical field.
