Amanda

Please note- Amanda only teaches online

Amanda, a full time Bay Area preschool teacher, began studying the piano in 2005 and quickly developed a passion for it. She particularly enjoys classical and contemporary music pieces. As a teacher, her aim is to help students unlock the meaning and message of any piece of music. Amanda’s teaching and learning are both about exploration, inquiry and experimentation. She approaches each lesson fully committed to spark a student’s imagination and musical understanding through these principles. Her joy is seeing students’ ideas develop and being there to guide them each step of the way!

Together with her students, they discover a wide range of repertoire, from Schumann, Kurtag, and Prokofiev, to Beethoven, Ravel and Philip Glass. She also equips students with the practical skills of lead-sheet reading, accompaniment styles, transposition and improvisation so they can take their creativity and love of music in many directions.

But Amanda’s goal is to do more than teach piano. She helps students become problem solvers and independent learners, as they find their own artistic voices. Amanda ask lots of questions to help students make their own musical decisions and take ownership of their interpretations. She’s taught students ages 5 to 68, and has found that at every age, the discovery of how music can communicate and connect people is richly rewarding.

Our banjo and guitar intstructors teach a diverse range of musical styles, with banjo students exploring bluegrass, folk, blues, country, jazz, and classical on the 5-string banjo, while guitar students dive into rock, blues, metal, country, and classical on both electric and acoustic guitars. Whether you're learning Scruggs or Clawhammer style on the banjo or working through chords and melodies on the guitar, lessons focus on musicianship and fun. Students are challenged with new technical or theory concepts in each session, but lessons always end on a high note with a favorite riff or song. If you have always wanted to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel, musical theatre or R&B singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you. Voices students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice. We not only teach singers but can also help local TV and radio personalities who want to enhance their speaking voice.

Tairyn

At San Jose School of Music, we offer piano, voice, and guitar lessons that combine solid musical training with the fun of learning the songs and styles you love. Our piano teachers guide students through sight reading, technique, and theory while incorporating favorite pieces from classical to pop; even a simple electronic keyboard is enough to get started. Voice students explore styles such as rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel, musical theatre, and R&B while building fundamentals like breath control, tone, and ear training—whether their goal is to sound like their favorite artists, develop a unique style, or even improve their speaking voice. Guitar students can learn electric or acoustic in rock, blues, metal, country, or classical styles, beginning with chords, melodies, and sight reading, then progressing into theory and advanced techniques, always ending lessons with something fun like a favorite riff or song. No matter the instrument, our teachers create a warm, encouraging environment that inspires confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music.
