Amanda

Please note- Amanda only teaches online

Amanda, a full time Bay Area preschool teacher, began studying the piano in 2005 and quickly developed a passion for it. She particularly enjoys classical and contemporary music pieces. As a teacher, her aim is to help students unlock the meaning and message of any piece of music. Amanda’s teaching and learning are both about exploration, inquiry and experimentation. She approaches each lesson fully committed to spark a student’s imagination and musical understanding through these principles. Her joy is seeing students’ ideas develop and being there to guide them each step of the way!

Together with her students, they discover a wide range of repertoire, from Schumann, Kurtag, and Prokofiev, to Beethoven, Ravel and Philip Glass. She also equips students with the practical skills of lead-sheet reading, accompaniment styles, transposition and improvisation so they can take their creativity and love of music in many directions.

But Amanda’s goal is to do more than teach piano. She helps students become problem solvers and independent learners, as they find their own artistic voices. Amanda ask lots of questions to help students make their own musical decisions and take ownership of their interpretations. She’s taught students ages 5 to 68, and has found that at every age, the discovery of how music can communicate and connect people is richly rewarding.

Daniel

Daniel’s passion for playing instruments began with the piano, which laid a strong foundation for expanding his repertoire to include guitar and violin. Through piano study, he developed critical thinking and analytical skills, improved hand dexterity, and gained a deep understanding of music theory and overall musicianship. This structured approach also helped build confidence in performance. Daniel strives to impart these same lessons to his students, guiding them as they explore the many possibilities music has to offer.
When Daniel began teaching years ago, he set out to teach at the same high level as those who once taught him—recognizing that these were big shoes to fill. He believes in creating structured lesson plans for each student while allowing flexibility for exploration, tailored to individual needs and interests. Through this approach, Daniel has enjoyed watching his students grow not only musically, but also in developing lifelong skills that extend beyond music. Teaching has enriched his life as much as he hopes his lessons enrich the lives of his students. Whether working with young or older learners, beginners or advanced students, and even those facing challenges they feel are too great, Daniel is committed to helping each student reach their goals. He is proud to take that journey with them, wherever it may lead.
Daniel is a strong believer in the Suzuki Method and the philosophy that anyone can learn to play music. Every student has unique needs, and as a teacher, he sees it as his responsibility to adapt and support each student in achieving their musical goals.
Happy practicing!

Dave

Our banjo and guitar instructors teach a diverse range of musical styles, with banjo students exploring bluegrass, folk, blues, country, jazz, and classical on the 5-string banjo, while guitar students dive into rock, blues, metal, country, and classical on both electric and acoustic guitars. Whether you're learning Scruggs or Clawhammer style on the banjo or working through chords and melodies on the guitar, lessons focus on musicianship and fun. Students are challenged with new technical or theory concepts in each session, but lessons always end on a high note with a favorite riff or song. We incorporate method books for both instruments and encourage students to bring CDs or an iPod to learn their favorite tunes.
